Menopause Symptoms Vary from Woman to Woman

While some women experience very few menopause symptoms, many women suffer symptoms that vary from mild to more debilitating. Some of the most common symptoms are hot flashes, infections, sexual problems, mood swings and irregular bleeding. In addition, some women may experience some memory loss, depression, and increased likelihood of osteoporosis and some cancers. Menopause hot flashes may be the most common of these symptoms. There are menopause relief options that include diet modifications, natural menopause remedies and medication as well.

Hot flashes may come in the form of night sweats and will often interfere with normal sleep patterns. Hot flashes generally come on suddenly and may happen repeatedly throughout the day and at night. Hot flashes often start in the chest and face areas and then spread. Women who are experiencing menopause hot flashes are often self-conscience and quite uncomfortable when a hot flash leads to profuse sweating. A woman may also feel confused, disoriented and may also feel sick to her stomach. During menopause women may also be more likely to have infections of the bladder. Some relief is experienced by using estrogen in cream for or through estrogen supplements. In addition, women often report the benefits of dietary changes, cranberry juice and herbal supplements such as Black Cohosh.

Women may also experience sexual problems associated with the onset of menopause. For example, many women have a reduced sex drive. Another issue for menopausal women is that the vagina may be dry. Women’s sex drives may be diminished in part because of the physiologic changes that occur such as the thinning of the vaginal walls and the reduction of hormones that contribute to drive. Women may also be depressed during menopause and as a consequence be less interested in things that formerly held enjoyment. Hormone replacement therapy may be beneficial for women who have low levels of testosterone who are experiencing reduced sex drive, Saint Johns Wart has been used therapeutically by some women to reduce depression.

Occasionally women have reported memory loss related to menopause. However, many signs of memory loss may have less to do with a biological connection to memory and the stage of life a woman is entering into. For instance, lack of sleep, depression and lack of sex drive may all lead to dissatisfaction and absent-mindedness. In addition evidence suggests that there may be a general decline in short-term memory loss in the aging process in general. A healthy diet and exercise may go a long way to alleviate symptoms of memory loss in menopause. I addition reducing other menopausal symptoms may make a difference as well.

Women who are pre menopausal or menopausal are also more susceptible to osteoporosis and some forms of cancer. While these symptoms are uncomfortable for many women there are options available for menopause treatment that can reduce some of the discomfort associated with this natural stage in a women’s life.
